BIG Difference in Comic Books

I have just recently decided to purchase comic books again just to research characters that I want to write. I haven't been into comics for over 15 years. I will say that I was surprised when I purchased it recently.

Back then, comic books were for kids mainly. There was this comic ocde authority with a logo printed in ever cover of any comic book.

Now I was just informed it has been years since the comic code authority has been dismissed by the comic industry. The storylines are no longer for kids. It is young adult and adult oriented. I actually enjoyed reading and the art was fabulous. The paper is very sleek.

The quality has improved 1,000 percent. However, back then the price when I last bought it was about $ 0.75 or $ 1.00 per comic book. Now it is $ 2.99 per comic book and other special formats are at $ 3.99 or even $ 4.95 per comic book. This is pretty expensive for a piece of literature that you can finish reading in 10 to 15 minutes.

Yes I considered comic books literature. The storylines depending on who the writer, are respected by critics. Plus, I believe that comic books when given to a child who does not know how to read will help him or her learn to and continue to read because they are interested in reading them. Why ? The visuals make it interesting for them. Can you imagine a kid wanting to read a book without great illustrations ?

I must say that instead of buying a few comic books for research into the Green Lantern character, I have decided on subscribing to several.

I feel like a kid again. But this is going to be good reading for downtime at the office. After all I am getting tired of reading the newspaper and sports magazines in the office. Something new...for a change.
